Give them Disclaimers

K.O, I shouted. "We won the Tekken tournament. Did you notice how Nina knocked Bob down?" While we adults were elated, the kids around us were staring at us in anger and tears. We realized that we should have given them disclaimers before the tournament that we would win.

Although Generation Alpha is techno freaks, but millennials' experience goes far beyond their technology. When it came to playing games like Atari and PlayStation, it was millennials who explored it first. Holding the consoles/joysticks was new thrill for us. Mario, Pacman, Duck-Hunt, Tetris, Mortal Kombat, Tekken 3, X-files, Crash Bandicoot, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Sim City, etc. were the games we played.

Back then, we practiced as many game tricks in practice mode to get our moves right. Our games were difficult to crack but we never used YouTube to guide us. Only an instruction manual was enough for our help. That was our learning phase. Loading one game would take minutes and it was a normal practice to pat the machine so that it could load the game faster. Even though, it didn't make any sense. Some children would also arrange money, not for snacks or junk food but to play arcade games in game centers. With a new launch of a game, there was always curiosity involved.

Now, you will find the same games with more advanced versions. When I see the games played, I usually comment," Oh this game, we played it. We were good at it. Let's have one fight or race." And we win.

While today's generation might feel that our stories are boring or cringe-worthy, but these retro games entered our lives when we were trying to understand and explore our lives. They may whine, but they do see our expertise when we knock them out. Up till now, we do have that sense of strong and emotional connection with these games and we are not old just by our age but by our experiences, and one such experience we had was these games.

Do you have any old memories regarding these retro games? If yes, would love to read it in the comment section below.
