When I saw Nancy Drew's web series trailer, I was so excited that my memories rushed back to when I used to read her books.
I remember the books we read those days had a mad fan base. We would exchange those books from our friends. I know it sounds hilarious but anyone would love to relive those moments again. We were excited to visit book stores or exhibitions to buy the new edition of books. We also wanted to show off in front of our friends that we were updated with the latest books.
We preferred trading our storybooks as barter systems and would check our friend’s book's condition - front and back. We remarked, “Our book is in good condition and we want it back in the same condition otherwise I will not lend any book next time.” Hence, after so many conditions, a deal was cracked and trade would take place.
While Archie was the coolest college comic character with his friends Jughead, Veronica, and Betty on other hand, Suppandi was the foolest from Tinkle comics. When Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys solved cases, we felt as though we were on a rollercoaster ride and we were the ones solving those cases. To prove the oomph factor and to associate ourselves to the high elite classy league in school, some students boasted reading Mills and Boons and Sidney Sheldon. Even worth a mention are Agatha Christie, Famous Five, and Secret Seven.
In those years, people were passionate to have their home library and had a good collection of books. Stepping into any house, you would find beautiful bookshelves with a series of books. But, the scenario is not as same as before. Bookshelves have been reduced and replaced by audiobooks or online books. The era has changed and so is the preference.
